Science Meets Art at Artists’ Mediums

Bob Arns is a nuclear physicist with a hidden talent.  For the last six decades, the UVM Professor Emeritus has been creating artwork under the alias Mutin.  On March 5, the intersection of science and art will be on display as Artists’ Mediums in Williston holds a reception for Arns’ first solo show.
Initially Arns did his painting clandestinely, worried that it might detract from his reputation as a scientist, but of late he has become willing to shed some light on his artistic side.  This show is the first time he has allowed his work to be shown in public.  Arns’ paintings run the gamut from abstract to representational and include both oils and acrylics. His subject matter ranges from portraiture to flowers, birch trees and sunsets in Maine, but his most recent compositions consist of images inspired by the Hubble telescope.  There are five paintings in this series and it is an area that Arns continues to explore.
“I’m really pleased and honored to have Bob’s show at my store,” said Artists’ Mediums owner Chelsea Lindner.  “I love this exhibit.  Each of these works is impressive.  They cover several styles and subjects, but there is a flow through each grouping of canvases.  It’s wonderful to come to work and be able to enjoy them.”
The reception will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on March 5.  Light snacks and beverages will be served.  Arns’ paintings will be on display at Artists’ Mediums through the end of April.  More of his work can be seen at Mutinvt.com
