Chelsea Lindner:
I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t creating something from everything I could find.
From sculpting with play-dough, to drawing pictures (& coating them with white glue, so they would look glossy photos) for my toy camera. In school, I took every art class I possibly could: including drawing, painting, sculpting, sewing, pottery, and jewelry making.
Just after High School I managed several craft and fabric stores, I enjoyed some experience hand painting cells for cartoon animation, and a brief stint at metal engraving, as well as continuing my seam-stressing by sewing my own wedding dress.
I moved to Seattle in 1988, where I sold fine art papers for Limited edition Printing, while learning blockprinting for Cd cover art.
Finally in 1995 I began working at Artists’ Mediums Inc. in Williston Vermont, where learned even more about the artists materials I loved so much. Shortly I was put in charge of the custom framing department for about 6 years, before becoming General Manger in 2002.
I am under contract to own the store now, which will be completed in Dec. of 2016.
The community of creative customers I have had the honor of meeting while here at Artists’ Mediums Inc. have brought many challenging questions to my attention which have helped me to expand my knowledge of the materials that I sell.

These talented Vermonters have also given me so much inspiration throughout the last 15 years; they have made working a humble retail job -joyous and rewarding beyond expectation.
Throughout the years I have worked with Watercolors, Block Printing, Mono Printing, and Sculpting, but most recently have concentrated most of my efforts on traditional Oil Painting.

Kristin Richland:
Since then, I’ve acquired a drive to try all sorts of mediums and get the most mileage out of my supplies. This was furthered when I went on to the Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine, where I was introduced to interdisciplinary techniques and pushing materials beyond their normal uses. At the end of four years I’d worked in relief and mono printing, digital imaging, small soft sculpture and of course oils and acrylics.
In 1999 I graduated with a BFA in Painting, along with my husband (BFA Graphic Design). We moved back to Vermont in 2000 and I soon landed my spot here at Artists’ Mediums, where I’ve been doing the custom picture framing since 2002. It continues to be a treat to work with so many different types of art from around the world, and I love hearing the story behind each piece that is brought to us. In addition, I get to put my knowledge of art materials to use quite frequently, as I decide on the best way to handle a work.
I often joke that working here at the store is a second education, but it’s true. In school, I learned the elements of design and color theory and so forth, but here at the store there are so many more lessons to be learned about the actual handling of the mediums, from research and from customer feedback. When I find a product that I’m passionate about, it’s hard to shut me up. Because of this, I’ve presented several demonstrations (and a few classes) for the store, sometimes off-site. These have covered paper making and paper casting, small figure sculpting, block printing, silkscreening, card making, matting and framing, acrylic underpainting and encaustics.
In my studio, graphite and Prismacolor pencils are always closest to hand, followed by my dipping pens and inks. The acrylic paints--traditional, slow-dry, fluid, etc., and an array of acrylic mediums and grounds occupy the drawers to either side of me, followed by my watercolors and Acryla gouache. The materials I use are therefore rather traditional, but I enjoy mixing them in non-traditional ways. My subjects are often fantastical or surreal creatures or landscapes which lend themselves to experimentation.
And I’m always ready to try the next new thing.

Theresa Somerset:
Theresa Somerset is a graduate of Castleton State College with a B.A. in Fine Arts. She has been employed by Boutilier’s Art Store, Collectors Art Gallery and Doll House Shop, and to date, at Artists’ Mediums Art Supply Store.

Theresa has an interest in painting in watercolors, acrylics, oils, and most recently, mixed media. Her favorite subjects are her children set in genre paintings, as well as still-lives which incorporate antique and sentimental objects from the artist’s own collections. She has won a number of awards, as well as participating in a number of juried shows. She has been drawing and painting since early childhood. Being a busy mother of two, she regiments herself to paint a certain number of hours per week.
Although not limited to, watercolor is the medium of choice for this artist. The paintings are slowly built up in a series of multiple glazes, which make for their brilliant and jewel-like qualities, much like traditional oils. This artist is also known to experiment with watercolor mediums – additives that give greater flexibility and interest to each piece.
Acrylics and oils are also found in this artist’s arsenal. The subject matter includes still-lives with China, glass, lace and heavily patterned backgrounds, as well as illustrative and allegorical paintings with decorative borders. This artist loves to experiment with several acrylic mediums and grounds for paintings, acrylic gels, molding pastes, glazing fluids and metallic leafs found on the backgrounds of some of her trompe l’oiel paintings. Theresa loves to push the boundaries with these mixed mediums, along with color, and subject matter, and is exploring a series of “Assemblages” which crosses over into collage with a sculptural aspect.
Throughout the years, her interests have varied from fine art to crafting. She has tried her hand at recycled art, creating paper mache bowls using glossy magazines, and perfecting a paper clay recipe. She enjoys decorating these heavy, glowing geode-like vessels once they have been formed with a wide variety of metallic and micaceous acrylics. Most recently, she has been exploring the fine art of egg decoration, starting with, but not limited to wax resist techniques and applications that have crossed over from her art training to make her work unique and interesting. She is currently a member of the International egg art guild. Her precise attention to detail has been touted as one of her trademarks. You may find more of her work at http://www.precisionartstudio.com/.
