“Zentangle Rocks!” with Jamie Proctor-Brassard

This two-hour class is a Zentangle® exploration on all things natural. Class will cover a brief intro to
the Zentangle Method, and will explore patterns found in nature. Students will first learn on small
paper tiles, and then progress to creating patterns on rocks. This class invites all levels and requires no artistic experience. Learn the skills to take home and practice on your own! Teacher will provide paper, rocks, finishing spray and some specialty pens to share. Students should bring their own pens and rocks.

The Zentangle® Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Anyone, any age, with any – or no – art experience can tangle!

Please bring from Home:

At least two small rocks, no smaller than a quarter, and no bigger than a lime. One rock should be light in color, and one darker. (see photo) The smoother the rocks, the better, and rinsed clean of dirt and debris. If you cannot find a stone, there will be some available at the class.

Parking for class will be on side of building.

Refund Policy :  Please sign up early for classes. This gives us time to order the correct amount of supplies and prevents us from canceling the class if there doesn’t seem to be any interest. Full refunds will not be given for class cancellations. If you need to cancel,
50% will be returned in the form of store credit and 50% will go to the teacher. If Artists’ Mediums needs to cancel for any reason, you

will receive a full refund.

Plein Air Demonstration

May 9th (Friday) 4:00-6:00 at Artists’ Mediums

Libby Davidson will be demonstrating the logistics of setting up for plein air painting and reviewing the necessary materials for doing so. She will be setting up outside if weather cooperates or inside near one of our large windows if not*. This is a great opportunity to view her technique and pick up a few tips.

*If it happens to be raining, the limit for the demonstration will be 14 participants. Otherwise,  there is no limit. This is why we require pre-registration- to keep you informed if changes need to be made.

After School Program Purpose:

 ·The programs will provide young artist with the tools to explore, imagine, create, and experience self-discovery in a supportive, nonjudgmental art studio environment.

About Sherrie Hiller the teacher and artist:

Working with art and mixing the experience with children is a passion. I started teaching after school art classes at The Art Studio at Sanford Barn in Hamden, Connecticut in 1999 in addition Alice Peck Elementary School, (Hamden Public School District) in 2003. I taught workshops for Minds and Motion the Connecticut Association for the talented and gifted. In 2003, which I conceived and implemented Kindergarten and First grade art workshops. Moving to Vermont in 2006 I taught mixed medium art classes and jewelry making at Edmunds Elementary and Middle Schools in Burlington.

Before and during the time I was involved with instructing art classes I served as Visual Artist and Production Coordinator for the International Arts and Ideas Festival in New Haven, Connecticut. I worked on neighborhood projects and art in public places.

In June of 1999 I was appointed a position on the Hamden Arts Commission. I was the chair for the Family’s Saturday Afternoon Series. This committee planned ongoing enrichment and entertainment programs. I was on many committees to promote the arts and educate the community.

Remember

Do you remember how the Paper racks blocked the light from the windows, and kept it from going all the way throught the store?

They were very pretty with the light shining through them, but the rest of the store was darker because of them.

Then we began to re-arrange,  and you could see that, as we moved from the front to the back with our changes, the light was finally getting access to all the lovely colors.

This way, our creative customers can see the scrumptious color choices in daylight!

BAM! POW! HUMOR! DEEP FEELINGS! NO LIMITS! Comic books are the new “great American novel”; everyone reads them, many want to make one and have the talent and drive to learn the skills! Do you? Learn some basic concepts in the art of sequential storytelling and inking with Burlington artist Greg Giordano. Students will review basic theories or comic book storytelling and inking. Various supplies and techniques of comic illustration will be demonstrated and students will get to try them out! Motivated attendees will get space to draw and/or ink a comic page! W00T!

"Widen your horizons with oil pastel in this action-packed, intensive workshop. Create large or small paintings from imagination or from photos using vibrant Holbein oil pastels, or bring your own sets. Award-winning landscape painter Carol Boucher will teach you to prepare optimal surfaces using acrylic ground and gesso. Explore a variety of papers and boards. Carol will demonstrate methods of keeping vibrancy while blending colors using only the pastels. She will also present a brief slide show of her work.

February 2010 Demonstrations

Our store demos are free and open to the public. Seating is limited and first-come, first serve. While the store is still open for business, we will do our best to limit distractions and noise wherever possible. Please help by turning off cell phones and pagers during the artist's presentation.
