Plein Air Demonstration

May 9th (Friday) 4:00-6:00 at Artists’ Mediums

Libby Davidson will be demonstrating the logistics of setting up for plein air painting and reviewing the necessary materials for doing so. She will be setting up outside if weather cooperates or inside near one of our large windows if not*. This is a great opportunity to view her technique and pick up a few tips.

*If it happens to be raining, the limit for the demonstration will be 14 participants. Otherwise,  there is no limit. This is why we require pre-registration- to keep you informed if changes need to be made.

TAG SALE

TAG SALE! We are doing a ton of spring cleaning! That means, this weekend we are having a MEGA tag sale. Saturday  February 22nd 2014 (10-5)

24 Hours of Making COMICS

Now in Winooski!

Winooski Welcome Center will host the 6th Annual 24-Hour Comics Day on October 20th-21st 2012. 

The event is being co-produced by Artists’ Mediums, Rick Evans, and the Winooski Welcome Center.

24-Hour Comics Day, the fun and possibly grueling challenge for comic artists and writers worldwide is back! Artists of all abilities and styles are invited to push themselves to their physical and creative limits in the singular artistic challenge of creating an entire 24-page comic book in one 24-hour period.  

 

Rick made a mini-comic to help newbies figure out how to tackle the challenge.  It's a good refresher for everyone, seeing as how it only comes once a year.

Ready to sign up?  

There are a few things to be aware of first:  

1. Be sure to arrange a ride to pick you up at the end of the event.  When you've been awake and drawing for 24 hours, it is not safe to be operating a vehicle.  
2. The event is open to participants 16 years and older.  Permission slips for those under 18 must be signed by a parent or guardian the day the event starts.  
3. You're going to be in one place for 24 hours.  Dress comfortably, bring food (or have friends visit you with food), a pillow, etc.  Read the guide for more suggestions from Rick, who has been leading this for us from the start.  
4. When you're ready to join in*, contact us by email at 24hcdvt@obscurius.org  or call Artists' Mediums at (802) 879-1236 
5. If you want to drop in and check the progress we're making, please do.  We'll be there from 10 a.m. Saturday the 20th through 10 a.m. Sunday the 21st.  Come watch the artists push their stories through to completion!

Sketch-tastic!

Hello!  Kristin here, I thought I'd chime in tonight with some interesting things I've come across recently.  
First up, this is courtesy of Hi-Fructose magazine: 

Attaboy and Annie Owens at Sketch Tuesday

Gather a big bunch of artists together for some intensive drawing (and art-selling) time.  Music, libations, and watching the art flow.  This particular bunch of folks gather for a monthly art event such as this, hear that? 
Obviously, the Bay Area has a high concentration of creative types, but I'm willing to bet that we could arrange something like this here in VT sometime.  


My second offering is 

Their mission:  The Campaign's work will finish when the words 'I can't draw' are dropped from our vocabulary.  
It's a lofty goal, but why not aim for it?


Seems like the time is ripe, my friends!  I'd love to see an event like this take place here in Vermont.


Whoops, before I forget, there is one local event that I have heard good things about but have yet to attend:  
"Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School" which some of you may have read about in Seven Days.  
For those of you down in the White River Junction area, check it out!  I'm waiting to hear when the Waitsfield chapter will reopen at the Big Picture Theater, which would certainly be an easier commute on a weeknight!

Seven of our group here in VT have begun their comics, and I'm about to join them. Excpecting a few more participants to trickle in soon... especially now that the coffee has arrived :)

Acrylic is a wonderful medium for creating multiple layers of intriguing depth. In this Hands-On Workshop, discover the array of GOLDEN gels and mediums that can be used to create seductive textured and translucent surfaces. Build your surfaces from thick to thin, with washes, glazes and scraffito. This workshop is designed to create ideas, not finished paintings...expect to play and return to your studio with a new lust for materials and plenty of juicy ideas to take your painting to new heights. All Golden materials are provided for use in class. All levels are welcome.

Please bring: Something to carry several small wet paintings home in the car (a large cardboard lid with sides can work well), paper towels or rags. Wear worry-free clothes!
No additional supplies required, just bring your creativity, an open mind, and a plan for a quick working lunch.

A great opportunity to learn about Golden Acrylic's wide variety of offerings is coming up in two weeks here at the shop. We are only able to do this once a year, so be sure to mark it on your calendar!
