Plein air* painting materials and equipment with Matt Hopper
In like a Lion, out like a Lamb. Though March may not be Plein Air friendly, April is an artists’ blank canvas. With new beginnings of the Spring season, it’s time to dust off those portable easels and get outside. Join Holbein Artist Educator Matt Hopper for a two hour informational seminar on everything an artist needs to take their artwork out of the studio and into the fresh air.
*Plein air: En plein air (French pronunciation: [ɑ̃ plɛˈnɛʁ]) is a French expression which means "in the open air", and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors.
Speaking of Plein air, have you heard about the Plein Air Festival being held this July 23rd in Jericho? Pre-registration deadline for artists is March 15th. If you are intrested in this exciting event, contact Barbara Greene at blgreene30@comcast.net or (802) 899-2974Full description is at Vermont Art Zine.

Saturday March 26th 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Making your own patterns for Ukrainian Eggs with Theresa Somerset
Making your own patterns for Ukrainian Eggs with Theresa Somerset
Photos show how Theresa starts with the image drawn onto a design sheet, and then the progressionto egg, to line drawing, and then to illustration/painting.
Theresa will be exploring the methods used to create unique designs and how to transfer a design idea onto a three dimensional surface…like and egg. These patterns aren't limited to just dyes; did you know you can use encaustics to decorate eggs? Make and Take Painted Flowerpots
MAKE AND TAKE: For a three day period and a minimal fee (per day) you’ll have access to selected materials and finished samples to reference as you complete your creation. We are keeping the fees low as these projects are self guided, although our artistic employees would be willing to offer tips & suggestions if you desire. Lots of fun supplies will be on hand.
PAINTED FLOWERPOTS: Thursday, April 7th, Friday, April 8th, & Saturday, April 9th Prepared Terracotta Flowerpots (internally sealed) as well as a wide variety of Acrylic Paints and brushes are provided - all you need to add are your ideas! The fee is $10.00 per person for one 8” pot. Once you have finished your painted flowerpot, we will seal the outside of it for you-with exterior quality clear coat, to preserve your garden art. This does mean you get to stop back in to the store to pick up the varnished flowerpot at a later date. (If you want to clear coat it at home yourself, there is no difference in the fee)
