Fresh from Colorado!

Chelsea has just returned from a trip to CO which included a visit with Terry Ludwig of Terry Ludwig Pastels (and yes, we'll have these in the shop soon!) When she's settled back in, we'll have some pictures from her tour of the factory. Until then, here's a bit of background:

"Frustrated with the lack of color options available and few choices for very soft pastels, Terry Ludwig began experimenting with formulas for making his own pastels in 1995.

His goal: create a vast array of color in pastels that were uniformly soft across all densities of hue.

His result: over 500 intense colors, some of which are unavailable elsewhere, in a unique square pastel.

Crafting each pastel with a broad range of pigments by hand with minimal natural binders renders highly concentrated, velvety pastels. The square shape delivers thick, broad strokes and thin, precise lines where necessary."

Look for these in our pastel aisle soon...

Pastels

Winsor Newton is discontinuing thier line of Soft Pastels.

I am asking all my Pastel customers which Pastel line I should carry.
So far, I hear NUMEROUS answers!
I am waiting until there is a general consensus, (so let me know what you think!) but in the meantime, I thought I'd mention that the

Winsor Newton Pastels are at a 25% discount off of the list price right now,
until they are gone.

ALSO if you haven't heard about the Pan Pastels, I do have some of them in the store,
there are some really wonderful instructional videos on line that you might enjoy.

Artists Mediums Art shows Rules and forms

ALL Art is accepted on a first come first serve basis, and should be something that hasn't shown at Artists Mediums previously.
Our shows will usually be displayed for three months and will be centered on a theme.
We can sell your art through the store, and will now be taking a 20% commission.
Money is paid to the artists at the end of the show when artwork is picked up.
We REQUIRE (like most show locations) that you fill out and sign a Waiver of Liability, and Show TAGS for ALL of the artwork that you would like to show. Completed forms must accompany delivered artwork. Click here to print out these forms:
Waiver of Liability
Show Tags
Drop off's and pick ups need to be made during store hours, within one week of the begining/end of each show. PLEASE understand we are primarily a retail art store, allow for extra time during drop offs and pick ups, as we cannot always accomodate a large influx of art as quickly as a professional gallery.
(Please note that we do not have storage space to store artwork outside of the show dates. Artwork left 30 days past the end date of the show will be charged a $5.00 storage fee. Artwork left over 60 days past the show end date will be donated to a local charity.)

HANGING ART:
Due to our retail environment, the artwork must be “PG,” ready to hang on the wall safely, and there are some space limitations.
(NO WIRELESS frames.)
If you have very large artwork, we can accomodate a couple pieces per show, so call to see if space is available.

CARDS:
(Per Person: 3 Designs, 3-5 of each max)
These must all be labelled with price, artist and descritpion as well.

3-D ART:
There is some space available in our glass cabinets for 3-D artwork, but that space is limited, by size and availability, feel free to call and ask if the space is full yet.

Your artwork doesn't have to be for sale, and if you do not wish to sell it, just mark it as "NFS".
(EXCEPT DURING OUR HOLIDAY GIFT SHOW, which is a show of unique items for the gift giving season, all art must be for sale during that show only.)
Bring in your art during our normal business hours, and we will try to fit it into the show!
Open to all ages, all styles and all ability levels! We look forward to hearing from you! Contact us at (802) 879-1236 or (800) 255-1290.

Snow sculpting

January thaw offers the rare opportunity to create something of interest in your nieghborhood to keep the winter blues away.

This is in progress, because I would still like to color it, (which I do with a spray bottle and food coloring!) but here is my latest project. (I hope you can tell that it's a cat about to pounce)

Show us what you've made!

Call for Artists!

Bring us your art at the begining of February 2010 for the :

WARM & FUZZY Show!
February, March and April in Vermont are traditionally so cold, we were looking for something to warm us up. At first we thought we'd ask you to bring in only art made with WARM tones: like red, yellow and orange. Realizing that many artists work in black and white, and not wanting to show too much color predjudice, we thought, how about an animal show?
Well, in the end, we decided to leave it open to either option, and this show is going to be warm and fuzzy... it can be either, or both .... surprise us...you always do!

********************************************************************
Not only did we finally decide what this next show will be but in a rare attempt to stay ahead, so you can actually paint for the shows, we have already decided that the summer show:
May June and July 2010- will be a PORTRAIT show. So start thinking about who's going to be on your canvas!
For rules and further information about showing here at the store, click here.
