Try-it Unique Golden Grounds:
Tues. July 26th 4:00-5:30pm
GOLDEN Acrylic Ground for Pastels is a 100% acrylic medium designed to prepare surfaces for the application of pastels, charcoal and other art media where a coarse tooth is desired. It contains finely ground sand (silica) in a pure acrylic emulsion. Acrylic Ground for Pastels can be applied to paper, canvas, wood or any primed support. This allows almost limitless applications for media typically confined to standard papers.
GOLDEN Absorbent Ground is an acrylic liquid surfacing medium that dries to a porous, paper-like surface. Applied over gessoed canvas, it allows for raw canvas-like staining and watercolor effects. Lightfast, permanent and flexible. Health Labeled (HL) Product. Not for use by children.
GOLDEN Fiber Paste feels like lightly pressed handmade paper– White fibers add strength, absorbency, texture and a unique woven feel. The dry Fiber Paste imparts a rough, watercolor paper-like surface that can be used to create paper-like “skins” to be used in a variety mixed media.

MAKE YOUR OWN- Handpainted Shoes by Kristin
What you need:
-Paint Brush(es): You can use a variety of paint brushes to work with textile paints. Usually it's easier to work with a nice soft brush that maintains its shape for creating designs. The Holbein Hard Resable brush works perfectly for this! This brush is soft, yet holds a nice point, and holds a good amount of paint to help you make clean and flowing lines.
-Jacquard Textile Paint: These paints are designed for fabric and will work great on most shoes. They come in many different colors and are very flexible when dried.
Hints:
-Clean the shoes thoroughly before hand. A mild soap and water solution will work just fine.
-Do not apply large globs of paint, these might crack off in time. Thin and even layers will last longer.
-You can heat-set the fabric paint with a heat gun (be careful not to burn the shoes) or you can use a blow dryer on the "high" setting.
We would love to see your photos of painted shoes! Feel free to email them to info@artistsmediums.com or share them with us on Facebook !

Silkscreen time!
Hi, it's Kristin, and I'm excited to report that I'm taking a silk screening class at BCA over the next month. This is a method I have dabbled in over the past few years, but never received formal instruction for.
As I gather materials (and I must say it's fun to be on the "shopping" side of holding a class supply list) I wanted to point out what we have available through our e-partner catalog online.
Clear film that's ink-jet friendly, a must-have for the photo-emulsion technique
GIANT tubs of screen printing ink!
And here's the kit I purchased a few years ago (ostensibly as a Christmas gift for my husband, though he lets me use it...)The class doesn't start for two weeks, but I'm going to start going through my images to see what I might want to work with. I'm really looking forward to putting my drawings here there and everywhere, once I tackle the process.
